Year in Review

September 2011, The Westerner Staff got together during extended 4th for the first time to decide staff positions. The 13 staff members had determined staff positions in no time at all. With 2 senior editors, Alicia Erthum and Erin Norton to run the show, the other 10 writers went home to write their first stories of the year. 2 people to get unique pictures for the Westerner also helped out with the issues. In the first year of Westerner on the web we had more than 940 pageviews on our website, over 800 facebook friends, 100+ twitter followers, and several dozen Google+ friends. The Westerner published 60 stories in local newspapers varying from homecoming,senior spotlights, the arts, sports, mathletes, school productions, clubs, creative writing, horoscopes, clubs, future school events, march madness, special olympics, and awards ceremonies. Our Webmaster succeeded in linking all of our school's sports statistics to the site via QuikStatsIowa as well as WDHS daily announcements. The Westerner staff is looking for a sponsor to help us get our own web domain next school year. Thanks to our staff members and followers for a great year of The Westerner. A couple of students posted comments on our Facebook status. Emma Hollenback said she loved "The citizens of the month! I also LOVED the TAG teacher this year, Mrs. Recker!!!!! She's awesome!" Alan Klostermann said "i definetly liked all the dances and pep rallies!!"
